Lessons 10-11: Uranus and Neptune
Lesson 10: Uranus: Salt and Watercolor Painting
Supplies:
-Salt
-Blue watercolor paints
-Water
-Optional: Silver glitter
Directions for Children
- Have your child paint their planet with blue watercolor (liquid watercolors will be more vibrant but pan watercolors will work well too).
- While the paint is still wet let them sprinkle on some salt.
- Optional: add silver glitter as well while the paint is wet if you like.
- When the paint is completely dry your child can run their finger over the excess salt to remove it, but the painting will still have the lovely effect of the salt

Lesson 11: Neptune: Marbleized Effect with Shaving Cream
Supplies:
-Shaving Cream
-Watercolor paint in blue
-Pipette
-Squeegee
-Tool to mix (Q-tip, popsicle stick, your finger, etc.)
To Prep: Cover a tray in shaving cream.
Directions for Children
- Your child can use the pipette to squirt some liquid watercolor in blue on top of shaving cream.
- Use a finger or a tool to stir the color into the shaving cream. Pro Tip: Do Not over mix or you won’t get a marbleized effect. This one is fun to play in first before doing the actual project so kiddos can explore and play to their heart's content.
- Once they’re happy with the mixture, take the planet paper and place it face down on top of the shaving cream. Press down gently until the whole page is covered.
- Remove the paper from the tray and use the squeegee to scrape off excess shaving cream. What is left behind should be the marbleized blue watercolor effect.
